Plaice sorting on board using a pick & place robotic system
In the Fishion & Robotics project, an advanced sorting line was developed in collaboration with Rapid Engineering. After the fish are gutted and bunkered, the fish is sorted by the specially designed sorting robot with a gripper. At the ends of the robot’s flexible arms are three suction cups that use a special vacuum technique to pick up the slippery fish. On either side of the belt, the fish are deposited into one of sic chutes for each sorting.
The Vision system measures the length and weight of the flatfish through volume measurement. Collecting this data is beneficial from economic, biological and regulatory perspectives.
